Kundalini Yoga: Sadhana - Your spiritual morning-practice



Sadhana - Your invitation to a spiritual morning-routine.


If you are new to Kundalini Yoga and have never attended a sadhana practice, then for sure your mind will find a lot of arguments to label this experience as something weird, strange or something that is not meant for you.


But allow me to tell you from the beginning, sadhana is for everyone, beginners or advanced practitioners, when you are curious and open to meet your true infinite self.

Sadhana is your invitation to start walking this path…


Sadhana can not be understood by the mind, as it does not speak to the mind, but trains to find clarity and consciousness there. Sadhana serves your soul and leads to a new depth of spiritual experience that can hold your identity in the face of global changes, relentless competition, information overload, and ecological and environmental challenges.


I guess there is no better moment than know to give it a try?


Yogi Bhajan says:

“The one who does sadhana builds himself such a powerful personality, he can conquer anything!”

Let me give you a short introduction on sadhana by starting with the question:


What exactly is sadhana?


"What is sadhana? It’s a committed prayer. It is self-enrichment. It is not something which is done to please somebody or to gain something. Sadhana is a personal process in which you bring out your best."

-Yogi Bhajan

Sadhana can be described as:

- a daily spiritual practice done in the early morning

- a discipline of the mind and body to serve the soul

- a conscious and consistant activity

- your personal, individual spiritual effort

- a commitment to attune to your higher inner self

- a main tool you use to work on yourself to achieve the purpose of life

What are the benefits of sadhana?

- you commit to dedicate this first time of the day to yourself = an act of (self-)love

- you clear your subconscious from fear and destructive patterns

- you train willpower, confidence and the ability to concentrate

- you will get in touch with your higher self and infinite greatness

- you will learn to start your day from an experience of total relaxation into mental happiness and contentment

- you will learn to act from this higher perspective throughout the whole day


How to prepare for sadhana?

- Create your sacred space for your daily spiritual practice (find inspiration here)

- Let some fresh air in the room before practice

- Drink a few glasses of water before practice

- Brush your teeth and wash your body before practice, do not go straight from the bed to your yoga-mat

- Wear clean and loose clothes. The recommended colour is white or bright colours.

Use a shawl or blanket during the practice, that you use only for sadhana.


By following this recommendations you make sadhana a spiritual event and help your subcounscious to tune into the frequency of sacredness with more ease.

What to expect in sadhana? How does it look like?


The practice of sadhana is a morning practice that starts in the sacred hours before sunrise, when the business of life is still sleeping. Sadhana can be done as a group or individually. The ideal is to join in a group practice and cultivate your individual practice as well.

The group sadhanas I am offering online can serve you as a beginner before you find your own routine, but anyways the group meditation not only add to individual effort, but multiplies it.” (Yogi Bhajan)

The sadhana I am teaching refers to the teachings of Yogi Bhajans teachings of Sadhana of the Aquarian Age, which follows strict guidelines and takes, when fully practiced, up to 2,5 hours = 1/12 time of your day.

In our morning-sadhana we will practice parts of the full aquarian sadhana by respecting its structure and logic.


The practice of our morning-sadhana takes one hour:

1. Japji Sahib Prayer (11min.)

2. Kundalini Yoga practice (29min.)

3. Kundalini Mantras (20min.)

1. Japji Sahib

Japji is one of the five daily prayers of the Sikhs. It was written by Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru. Japji comes from the Sikh tradition, but it has to be clearly stated, that they are free from any religion and can be seen as a heritage of humankind, delivered in beautiful sacred poetry through yogis who had a clear and neutral mind.

Japji is written in the mantra form divided in 40 pauris (pauris = steps), like the ancient Indian sacred texts.

By chanting its words and using your voice as a meditative tool you tune into the frequency of higher consciousness.

2. Kundalini Yoga practice

During our morning sadhana, we will practice a Kundalini Kriya (serie of excercices) that work on our physical body, mind, and spirit simultaneously.

In Kundalini Yoga a kriya is a series of postures, breath, and sound that work toward a specific outcome.

Through repetition and with a clear intention of the yoga practice we will achieve high benefits and initiate physical and mental changes.

Our practice takes 29min. and will end with a relaxation.

Please have a blanket by your side to keep your body warm during relaxation.

3. Kundalini Mantras


"Mantras are not small things, mantras have power. They are the mind vibration in relationship to the Cosmos. The science of mantra is based on the knowledge that sound is a form of energy having structure, power, and a definite predictable effect on the chakras and the human psyche."

Mantra is the use of sound to affect consciousness. Everything in the universe is vibrating and vibration is pure energy. So whatever vibration we are sending out by our thoughts and words, happiness or sorrow, joy or regret, they are vibratory frequencies of the mind that tune our bodys into a vibration that cause a response of the universe.


You are like a magnet attracting the vibrations to you by what you are sending out.

When we chant a mantra we are choosing to invoke the positive vibrations into our lifes as a result from chanting that later turns into a state of being.
